Mt. Bulusan is finally open! Last May, 2012 the officials of Sorsogon and local government approved the opening of Mt. Bulusan to the public since it was closed due to its recently eruption last February 2011.

Bulusan, Sorsogon  where Mt. Bulusan is situated locally means as “Where the Water Flows”  from the capital town of Sorsogon it is located 67Kms via Irosin and 47Kms via Gubat. Bulusan Sorsogon is approx.. 122Kms away from Legazpi City the Town of Mt. Mayon and 659 from Manila.

Bulusan is Characterized as the mountain forest around the peaks, and low land forest in the slopes, it has three peaks namely, (1) the active Bulusan Volcano, the highest of the three (2) Sharp Peak and Mt. Jormahan. There  are three lakes in the mountain  the most famous and visited is the Bulusan Lake a recreational area where tourist visit where you can do tour, picnic and kayaking. Others are named, Black Bird’s Lake and Aguingay Lake

During my stay in Legazpi to do some sort of work,  I was blessed to hear this news that the mountain is now open for hiking activities. I contacted some of the mountaineers in my Facebook account “The Philippineoutdoorrampage” if they could give me some  information about the climb and if possible join me in the said claimed.

Some information i gathered leads me to Mr. Philip Barlitet of Bulusan Volcano Natural Park (BVNP), the facilitator of all climbs conducted in the mountain during its opening. This also gives me some opportunity to meet some mountaineers in Bicol and make some new connections and friends.

Saturday, June 23, 2013 early in the morning, I rode a bus going to Bulusan and dropped off to Irosin, Sorsogon from here I took a tricycle ride going to Bulusan Lake,  where some of my fellow mountaineers are waiting, BVNP officials made it a batch by batch orientation and climb.

The Bulusan Lake, the biggest lake of Mt. Bulusan, this is the jump-off point where you can kayak or trek to the other side which is the point of access to the ranger station,
